Najidah subscribes to a philosophy of empowerment and believes that power imbalances contribute significantly to the high levels of abuse in our communities.
For this reason an understanding of power relations as well as rights and responsibilities are seen as critical for people to break free from abuse. It is in this context that all responses from Najidah are set.
The Najidah model of empowerment:
Power imbalances:
Power imbalances exist in relationships and can be understood as the degree to which one person or group can act on another against their will or without their informed consent.

Power relations:
Power relations describe the nature of power within relationships.
Whilst Najidah asserts that any person or people can be abused and feel unsafe, we are wholehearted in our belief that issues of class, gender, race or any other forms of categorization - such as disability have a major impact on the severity, impact and likelihood of particular people experiencing abuse and feeling unsafe.
